La Notizia: Milan and Inter accused of ‘neglecting’ San Siro to tune of over €26m

There is yet another twist in the San Siro saga, as AC Milan and Inter have been accused of neglecting the current stadium.

There have been quite a few developments recently regarding the stadium project. Firstly, a deal was agreed with the council which allows the clubs to buy the current San Siro and surrounding land, which is the first step in the proposed development.

However, the next 10 days are going to be decisive. Why? Due to its importance to the city, the sale is required to go through a vote in the City Hall and at the moment things are up in the air regarding which way it will go.

Now, La Notizia (via MilanPress) have provided another twist. An accusation has been made by the ‘Sì Meazza Committee’: Luigi Corbani – the president – claims that the two clubs have neglected nearly €27m in maintenance work on the current stadium.

This work was envisaged in the lease agreement with the City of Milan signed in 2000. According to data from the City, over the last five years they have spent only €1.5m, creating a €26m deficit.

The negotiations could take a turn for the worse if it turns out the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have not done their bit in keeping their current home up to scratch.
