La Presse: Milan and Inter ‘clash’ with council after obtaining San Siro renovation estimates

Inter and AC Milan have presented a feasibility study that challenges the estimates released by the City Council regarding the stadium costs.

According to La Presse (via Calciomercato.com), the dossier put forward by the two clubs estimates that the renovation of the current San Siro would cost €428.4m, less than half of the €810m+ needed for a new stadium.

The figures provided by Milan and Inter clash with those that the City Hall obtained as part of the Urban Regeneration Area study in 2022, which indicated €510m for the renovation and €650m for the new stadium.

The divergence between the two scenarios thus reignites the conflict between football clubs and the administration, with councillor Enrico Fedrighini asking for clarification on the sources and criteria used for the official evaluations.

The document updated to 2025 claims that renovating the entire ‘stadium sector’ would cost €428.4m, of which €371.7m would be allocated to the current stadium and €56.7m to interventions on the external areas and infrastructure.

On the contrary, the construction of a new stadium and the repurposing of part of the current facility would cost €707.9m for the stadium and podium it would be built on, plus €102.8m for ancillary works, for a total of €810.7m .

The amount would rise to over €1.2bn if the entire multipurpose area were included (hence the larger figure being widely quoted), including the recovery of a portion of the second tier of San Siro, estimated at €371.4m.
