Le Parisien: Mateta decides against surgery before World Cup after consulting specialists

Despite his knee problem, which was flagged during his AC Milan medical, Jean-Philippe Mateta will not have surgery to fix the issue. 

After the initial medical tests, Milan were keen to get another opinion on Mateta’s knee, given there were issues highlighted. So, after travelling to get a second view, the Rossoneri pulled out, due to these problems.

It was deemed that he could play with injections, albeit with a risk for the future. Alternatively, he could have surgery, which would keep him out for 3-4 months. So, why did the Diavolo need to make a move now? Ultimately, they decided that they didn’t need to.

Mateta avoids surgery

With the move breaking down, reports suggested that there was a chance that the Crystal Palace star would head to have surgery anyway, despite the problem being known for a while beforehand. However, Le Parisien reports, via Calciomercato.com, that this is not the case.

After consulting four specialists, the Frenchman has decided to avoid surgery for the time being, and each party agreed on the plan of action.

He still dreams of making the World Cup squad, which will be difficult considering the talent ahead of him. First, though, he must find a starting spot in the Crystal Palace team, which will be a challenge in itself.

Whether this will have a long-term effect on his career will be seen in the future. However, it certainly seems like a risk…
