In other seasons, it has felt like the pressure has been piled on Rafael Leao’s shoulders. For AC Milan, it probably will not change this year, but he may be more ready.
For a few years now, there has been the weight of Milan put on Leao. After his MVP season, when the side won the Scudetto, many expected that to be the base to grow from. Whilst he has grown, he has also become frustrating for some.
His progression has not transformed the Rossoneri into their former self. Perhaps, it may even be a burden for him. However, the hiring of Massimiliano Allegri feels as much for the club as it does for the Portuguese star.
The Italian sees him as a project, paramount to any successes, and it is paying off so far.
Previewing Perth Glory
This morning, the Portuguese spoke to the media ahead of the game in Perth tomorrow, and MilanNews relay his words.
What do you expect from tomorrow’s match?
“I expect a good match against a good team. The coach has explained to us how to attack and defend against them, but the most important thing is to be ready for the start of the season. We need to try to prepare well, 45 minutes or 90 minutes, try to win, but the goal is to be ready for the start of the season. We’ll give it our all and try to beat Perth Glory.”
How much does the affection of AC Milan’s Australian fans charge?
“There are so many of them, and you can feel their warmth. It’s great for us to play in these conditions. We’re very happy to have received this welcome, and we’ll try to repay the fans with a great performance against Perth.”

What did Allegri give you?
“We have an experienced coach who has already won here at Milan. We’re a young group, with some more experienced players who have been here for a while. We’re building the team, with the right spirit that helps even when we don’t play well. Compared to the past, everything has changed. I feel that this year Milan will be a team. We have important players who can make the difference, but above all, there will be great team spirit.”
Would you like to return to Perth in February for Milan-Como?
“It’s not official yet and I can’t say much, but if we played here again it would be really nice because we would have a lot of fans and that would be great.”
