Leao praises ‘incredible job’ by Milan and reveals Allegri’s half-time message

1 hour ago 30

Rafael Leao was proud of his AC Milan team-mates for their performance against Cagliari, and revealed what Massimiliano Allegri said at half-time.

Milan will not have been happy with how the opening 45 minutes went in their first game of the year in Sardinia, with the home side well on top and just missing some finishing. However, they stood firm and – as has often been the case this season – produced a much better second half performance.

The only goal of the night went to Leao, his seventh against Cagliari. It was a nice move to cut the Rossoblu open, with Youssouf Fofana finding Adrien Rabiot, who found the Portuguese forward with a cut-back into the box that he thumped in after setting himself.

‘On the right track’

The win moves Milan top for the time being, while waiting for Inter-Bologna over the weekend. Leao spoke to DAZN straight after the full-time whistle to give his reflections after a tough night and a hard-fought win at a difficult stadium, with MilanNews relaying what he had to say.

How do you feel after a win like that?

“The most important thing was the win. We did an incredible job against a team that plays well on their pitch. Davide [Bartesaghi] played in a different position, but he came in with the right mentality and played a great game. The team is on the right track.”

Once again, a goal from the first shot on target…

“The game is in the details. At half-time, the coach said that when we attack, we have to break the game apart. We came in with a different mentality and were more attacking.”

Did Allegri want you to shoot more in the first half?

“I was waiting for the right position. I’m especially happy for the team and for the three points.”
