Leao steals show but several impress: Player ratings for Milan-Fiorentina from Italian papers

2 months ago 77

AC Milan condemned Fiorentina to further bottom-three misery as they came from behind to beat them at San Siro, taking top spot in the process.

Admittedly, the circumstances going into the game were not ideal. Ardon Jashari, Christian Pulisic, Adrien Rabiot, Christopher Nkunku, Pervis Estupinan and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were all forced to watch from the stands due to various injury problems, meaning only seven players on the bench.

San Siro was stunned when the away side – who are winless all season – went ahead in the second half through Robin Gosens. However, Rafael Leao scored twice including a late penalty to engineer a comeback win.

AC Milan vs. Fiorentina: Paper player ratings

La Gazzetta dello Sport have their ratings from the game, starting with Milan’s overall performance and the management of Massimiliano Allegri, both of which earned a 7 out of 10 given the difficult conditions that the victory came in.

The best on the pitch was Leao, who got an 8 for his match-winning brace, while Zachary Athekame struggled in his first league start and was handed a score of 5.5. He and Strahinja Pavlovic were the only players to get less than a 6.

Luka Modric (7.5) drew praise, as did Davide Bartesaghi and Santiago Gimenez who got half a mark less. Youssouf Fofana was the legs in the midfield, getting a 6.5. Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia, Samuele Ricci and Alexis Saelemaekers got a passing score.

Corriere dello Sport meanwhile singled Leao out for praise, giving him an 8. Gabbia, Modric and Gimenez were deserving of a 7. Pavlovic, Fofana Bartesaghi and Saelemaekers got a 6.5, and only Ricci (5.5) struggled in their eyes.

Tuttosport gave Maignan a 5.5 as they believe he should have done better on the goal. Leao (7.5) was the man of the match for them, while Gabbia and Modric were handed a 7. Bartesaghi and Gimenez got a 6.5, with the rest passing grades.
