Leverkusen star Boniface admits to interest from ‘a top team in Italy’ amid Milan links

Victor Boniface has spoken out about some of the failed moves in his career, and he mentioned interest from a ‘top team’ in Serie A.

In the past few weeks a number of different sources have linked Boniface with a move to Milan. The Rossoneri are looking for a powerful penalty area striker, and the Nigerian certainly ticks those boxes, even if nothing has developed to the point of being advanced.

Milan have actually been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Boniface since his days at Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. These links persisted into last year, and it certainly lines up with the comments we are about to relay.

‘A top team in Italy’

Boniface spoke on the YouTube channel ‘Webek Studios’ about his failed move to Saudi Arabia in January but he also mentioned the chance to move to Italy, without however specifying the name of the team.

“I’ve had a lot of injuries, you know, but I’m still young. In the last transfer window [January 2025] I received a big offer from Saudi Arabia. Really very important. That’s what I thought… I’ve been injured for so long, if things don’t go well…” he said (via MilanNews).

“If instead I went there and stayed two or three seasons [then I’d be financially fine]. So I started calling my family, while people online were already starting to calculate how much I would earn: it was really a lot of money.

“I received a lot of phone calls. So I called my older brother, who in the meantime hadn’t heard about this offer yet. I told him there was this offer from a team in the Saudi Pro League, but also an offer from a top team in Italy.

“He said to me: ‘And you’re even thinking about it? You go to Italy, you can play in the Champions League, the World Cup is coming up…’ We ended the call and I continued to think…

“After two minutes he called me back: ‘They sent me some information about the money they’re offering you… Are you crazy to think about it? You have to go to Saudi Arabia!’ So I accepted the offer. But it wasn’t just about me, it’s also about the club.

“People think you have to accept it only on the player side, but you also have to see what your club thinks. The club also wants a lot of money and the offer was 70 million euros: they accepted and I was ready to go. I live in Cologne, I packed my bags and went to Frankfurt.

“Since I would have earned a lot, I had already given most of my designer clothes to my friends. And so I went to Frankfurt, where my flight was waiting. I was in the hotel, praying… But in the end nothing came of it. At the last minute it fell through. So I called my friends: ‘So, about those Louis Vuitton clothes…’ (laughs).”
