Former Liverpool CEO Peter Moore has revealed his shelved plans for the club’s expanded stadium.
The Anfield Road Stand at the Reds’ iconic stadium has been expanded by approximately 7,000 seats in recent years, with the building work ceasing in March 2025. The new two-tier stand pushed the ground’s capacity beyond the 60,000 barrier.
Liverpool’s owners FSG have also modernized the Main Stand, with around £200 million spent on the improvements across Anfield in the last 15 years, in addition to the club’s new state-of-the-art training facility in Kirkby. Moore played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s glory years when he was CEO between 2017 and 2020, a period in which the Reds won the Champions League and Premier League.

“I also thought Anfield Road expansion would be a good opportunity to reposition the away fans a little further up, but I lost that battle as well,” wrote the British-American businessman, who held roles at Reebok and Microsoft.
Moore now owns stakes in soccer clubs Santa Barbara Sky FC and Wisla Krakow.

While Anfield’s expansion partly led to Liverpool’s record £700m revenue, as announced in the club’s latest annual financial statement, there are no further plans to increase the ground’s capacity.
Chairman Tom Werner said last year in an interview with the Liverpool Echo: “We are comfortable that this is the right size now, more or less.
“We'd like to have the back of the house work a little bit.
“We're expanding the club store at Anfield and we are not shy about how we can generate more revenues because the more revenues we generate the more you can plough it into the pitch and the success on the pitch.”

Despite Liverpool being arguably the Premier League’s best supported club and the huge demand for tickets, Anfield still remains sixth in terms of the division’s highest attendances.
It lags behind Old Trafford, the London Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Emirates and the Etihad.
Any expansion plans have been affected by residents of nearby houses, particularly those behind the Kop End.
