Liverpool confirm team vs. Crystal Palace as Alexis Mac Allister decision made

4 days ago 35

Arne Slot has selected a strong team for Sunday's Community Shield against Crystal Palace, with the Liverpool head coach handing competitive debuts to Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds have named a similar side for the season curtain raiser from the one that started against Athletic Bilbao in the second of Monday's pre-season games.

But there was no Ryan Gravenberch or Kostas Tsimikas in the squad with both not named in the 20-man group that travelled to London . Giorgi Mamardashvili also drops out from the 3-2 win at Anfiled on Monday night, with Alisson and Virgil van Dijk returning to the XI.

The pair make up a back five that contains Ibrahima Konate and debutants Frimpong and Kerkez on the bench. As expected, there is no Conor Bradley in the squad, along with Joe Gomez.

In midfield, Wataru Endo makes a rare start with Gravenberch out and Alexis Mac Allister not yet fit to be named in the team from the off. Dominik Szoboszlai will play in a deeper role, allowing Wirtz to push forward.

In the attacking areas, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, who both netted in that win over Bilbao, start, along with Ekitike, the fourth debutant.

Liverpool is wearing it's off-while away kit at Wembley for the season curtain-raiser against the FA Cup winners. The match will be preceded by the laying of wreaths on the pitch in honor of Diogo Jota, while there will also be a period of silence.

VAR and semi-automated offsides will be in operation on Sunday, while penalties will follow the match if it ends in a draw.

Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Endo, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.

Substitutes: Mamardashvili, Robertson, Mac Allister, Nyoni, Elliott, Jones, Chiesa, Doak, Ngumoha.
