Liverpool has confirmed the permanent departure of young defender James Norris to Shelbourne. The 22-year-old was well down the pecking order at Anfield and he has previously impressed in Ireland on loan.

He had spent some time on loan with the Irish Premier Division side earlier in 2025, having joined the Reds' Academy at under nine level. Norris departs having made two senior appearances for the club.

He was named on the bench for Liverpool four times last season. The versatile left-sided player has been capped by England at U19 level and his career will now continue his career elsewhere.

"Everyone at Liverpool FC wishes James the best of luck for the future," the Reds said in a farewell statement that confirmed the transfer.

Today, January 1, is the first day that clubs can make moves in the winter window. It remains to be seen how active Liverpool will be in terms of incomings.

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, for instance, is admired. However, Oliver Glasner has already confirmed that he doesn't want to lose the player mid-season, even though he is out of contract in the summer.
