It's claimed Liverpool is keen on securing Germany international Serge Gnabry, whose future at Bayern Munich remains shrouded in doubt.
The former Arsenal winger has enjoyed a remarkable stint in Bavaria following his 2017 arrival. He has turned out 298 times for the German team across all competitions, finding the net on 97 occasions. Despite his tremendous achievements with Bayern, it seems his chapter at the club may be drawing to a close.
Gnabry, 30, sees his current deal expire at the season's end and would be eligible to enter discussions with overseas clubs regarding a free transfer from January onwards. Speaking of January, here are four other players who are being linked with the Reds.
According to Sky in Germany, Liverpool is among the sides monitoring Gnabry's situation ahead of a possible move.
Reports suggest his availability without a fee has placed him on their radar, with the Reds eager to secure a budget-friendly addition whilst preserving resources for other squad areas.
Anfield officials have already made preliminary enquiries. The wide area has become a slight issue for Liverpool after Luis Diaz's departure to Bayern in the summer. Florian Wirtz has arrived at Anfield, but he's viewed as more of a central attacking midfielder.
Gnabry's wealth of elite-level experience is also viewed as an appealing factor by Liverpool. While the Reds hold an interest, they must contend with rivalry from Juventus.
Bayern hasn't abandoned hopes of retaining Gnabry at the Allianz Arena, with discussions regarding a contract extension currently ongoing. The German team would be prepared to offer fresh terms, albeit on diminished wages.
Speaking during the summer, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany expressed his desire to retain the attacker. He said: "Look, this a very underrated player.
"There are outside opinions, but also our opinion and the opinions of his teammates. He’s an underrated player with very few weaknesses."
“He’s still important,” Kompany added. “And he’s always been very important for Bayern during important games in the past.
"If one’s honest, there’s few highlight reels without goals and assists from Serge."
Gnabry began his senior career at Arsenal, making 18 appearances and netting once. A loan spell at West Brom didn't go as planned before he made a permanent move to Werder Bremen, where he found the back of the net 11 times in his only season.
Bayern then snapped up Gnabry, promptly loaning him out to Hoffenheim. The winger has since been a crucial part of the Bavarian side for the last eight seasons.
