Liverpool could be without at least six players for Sunday’s game against Tottenham as Arne Slot waits to see whether Alisson Becker will be able to return in goal.

The Reds host their crisis-ridden rival at Anfield this weekend, with both sides needing a win for very different reasons. While Liverpool is fighting to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League, Spurs are battling just to remain in the Premier League.

The visitors aren’t helped by a growing injury list that has added more names after the disastrous trip to Atletico Madrid in midweek. While Liverpool’s own list of absentees might pale in comparison, it could still be without some key names against Tottenham.

Slot will be hoping for some good news on Alisson’s fitness after the Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper missed the trip to Galatasaray earlier this week, having suffered another hamstring scare during training.

There was hope that the Brazilian would have been able to join in with the rest of his teammates again when Slot spoke to the media at his pre-match press conference on Friday, although a late decision will have to be made on whether he can return against Spurs.

"He's been with the physios and with rehab until now,” Slot explained yesterday.

"We are training today as you know, so let's see if he can join the team session today. That is something I expect but I'm not 100 percent sure yet because I haven't spoken to him or the medical staff this morning yet."

Asked about Alisson's chances of returning on Sunday, Slot responded: "I'm hopeful, but that's not to say I'm 100 per cent sure."

Elaborating further on Alisson’s injury, Slot added: "He felt something when he passed the ball in one of his muscles. But after we checked it, it was so minor that we think it doesn't have to take very long.

"But as always, games follow up so fast that he had to miss the one against Galatasaray, and hopefully he's available and ready for Sunday.

"If not, I'm expecting him — if things go as planned — definitely against Galatasaray."

Federico Chiesa could return after missing Liverpool's trip to Galatasaray through illness

Federico Chiesa also had to miss the trip to Istanbul due to illness, with the Italian potentially in line to return at the weekend.

"I expect he feels better now because he felt unwell the day before the game and I think we're now three or four further ahead," Slot said on Chiesa. "So, I think he's able to train with us today again."

Meanwhile, Alexander Isak is continuing his rehab as he aims for a return to action soon. The striker has been out since December after breaking his leg in the last fixture against Tottenham, but is hoped to be back around the international break at the end of this month.

Wataru Endo faces a race against time if he’s to return before the end of the season, having been stretchered off against Sunderland last month, while Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni will remain out for the rest of the campaign.
