Joe Gomez will be available for selection again as Liverpool takes on Crystal Palace but Arne Slot is set to be without up to seven other players as the Reds look to firm up their Champions League status.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Slot said on Friday, might return to action in time to make a comeback, but it seems more likely that Freddie Woodman will be involved against his boyhood club.

He came on as a substitute in the Merseyside derby last weekend and the 29-year-old is ahead of Armin Pecsi in the pecking order. The young Hungarian shot-stopper is very highly rated and is likely to be named in the matchday squad.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is set for a spell on the sidelines after he was stretchered off against Everton, while Hugo Ekitike has undergone successful surgery, though no exact timeline for a return has been placed on the French forward just yet.

Elsewhere, Jayden Danns, as has been the case for some time, remains sidelined. Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leoni, meanwhile, are long-term absentees.

"The surgery went well," Slot said when he was asked about Ekitike. "That's the first important step that he had to make.

"But I think in such a long rehab process there are so many crucial steps to be made before you can actually say it's going to take that amount of months or that amount of months. It's going to take a long time.

"Everybody can know that if you call the first surgeon and ask him how long is this injury going to take, they will tell you multiple months.

"Then it all depends on how rehab goes. He's a very explosive player so usually that's not helpful if you have this injury.

"But maybe he is the exception to that — we don't know yet. But the first and most important step is that the surgery went well and he can from now on work on his recovery, which is going to take a long time.

"He will be back stronger, as will all the others that have been injured for such a long time. If you look at Giovanni Leoni, I don't know if you once in a while see some Instagram posts from the club, this guy becomes a beast."

Liverpool.com says: It will be interesting to see who plays at right-back. Curtis Jones did really well there a week ago, but Gomez and Jeremie Frimpong are both available.

There are decisions to make in midfield, too, while Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz could really do with showing some signs of a combination in the last few games of the campaign.
