Liverpool fans are elated after Jeremie Frimpong has undergone a remarkable transformation on the pitch.

Frimpong stood out on the right wing as Liverpool kicked off 2026 with a lackluster 0-0 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League.

While the Reds struggled to make an impact overall, Frimpong’s performance was a rare positive. Although he didn’t register a goal or assist, he came close on several occasions and consistently threatened down the right flank.

His ability to create chances and deliver quality balls into the box indicates he could be a valuable option in that position for upcoming matches.

Reds fans have taken to Reddit to share their delight at the Dutchman's performance. One user said: "His pace is outrageous. Wish we could leverage that more."

Another user said: "So refreshing to see someone on the wing with outrageous pace that’s happy to take on fullbacks 1v1 and not just look cut inside", while a third person added: "Was super fast today. Even lost his headband at one point and wasn’t phased by it."

A fourth Reddit user said: "Him and Hugo remind me of when Sadio and Salah first came. After not having a player as quick as them for so long, it was like 'oh… that’s what blistering pace looks like'".

A fifth person said: "His speed is something else, but we are unable to take advantage of it! More long balls behind the defence and unleash him!"

Frimpong may not be a traditional winger, but he certainly plays like one, which made his start on the right against Leeds a natural choice for Arne Slot.

His explosive pace adds a different dimension to Liverpool’s attack, particularly when challenging Leeds’ backline. Jamie Carragher noted that, unlike most wingers in the modern game, Frimpong frequently looked to take defenders on from the outside—a tactic that proved effective, even if it’s rarely seen in football today.

“Jeremie Frimpong looks dangerous every time the ball goes on the outside,” he said on Sky Sports. Frimpong always gets that half a yard, and you just don’t see that in the game.”

"His pace really has added something that Liverpool have not really had before, meaning they might just have their new winger without having to spend any more money."
