Liverpool gets glimpse into future as 15-year-old wonderkid scores again

2 hours ago 1

The Liverpool senior team's challenging weekend was mirrored by the academy sides following a series of difficult results.

The U21 team suffered a defeat at West Ham on Friday, and the U18 team was on the losing side of a nine-goal spectacle at home against Nottingham Forest the next day. Despite rallying from two goals down to draw level by half-time, Simon Wiles' Liverpool players ultimately succumbed 6-3 to the Tricky Trees.

This marked their third consecutive league defeat, pushing them down to ninth in the 14-team U18 Premier League North. Riko Robinson's goal and Ethan Broomes' stunning strike had given the visitors an early lead.

However, 15-year-old winger Josh Abe continued his ascent with another goal, netting at the far post from Lamore Lee Forrester's low cross.

Alvin Ayman, the 18-year-old who has regularly featured at left-back this season but was playing in a more familiar midfield role, equalized for Liverpool in first-half injury time with a superb 20-yard effort.

But the young Reds unravelled in the 17 minutes after half-time, with a series of defensive blunders allowing Robinson to complete a hat-trick while Scott Hamilton and Fuad Smith also found the back of the net.

Liverpool did manage a late consolation when 17-year-old substitute Josh Sonni-Lambie scored his 11th goal of the season with a tidy finish following some impressive individual play.

The U21s suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham on Friday at Rush Green Training Ground, bringing an end to their three-match unbeaten streak in Premier League 2.

The first half remained goalless, but a blunder by center-back Amara Nallo just five minutes into the second half allowed Callum Marshall to net the opening goal.

Joshua Ajala and Mohamadou Kante added to the scoreline later on, sealing a loss that could have been worse if not for Liverpool goalkeeper Kornel Misciur's penalty save from Jethro Medine.

Interestingly, Liverpool's U21 team won't be back in Premier League 2 action until January 9 next year when it faces Norwich City.

Meanwhile, the U18s are set to play a Premier League Cup match against Newcastle United on Saturday, November 22.

Liverpool U21s (4-2-3-1): Misciur; Ramsay, Lucky, Nallo, Ewing (Bradshaw 62); Laffey, Pilling (Pinnington 85); Morrison, Gordon, Kone-Doherty (Onanuga 62); Figueroa (Davidson 46). Sub: Poytress.
