Liverpool returns to competitive action this weekend with a game at Wembley against Crystal Palace. And the first silverware of the new season will be on the line in the Community Shield.
With transfer interest in the likes of Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott mounting and Tyler Morton having joined Lyon this week, it remains to be seen who might be missing. Arne Slot's starting XI and substitutes bench could offer some clues on what comes next.
The Reds boss will offer the latest update during his pre-match press conference on Friday. In the meantime, this is the latest on those who have been missing in recent friendlies against teams like Yokohama Marinos and Athletic Club.
Alisson Becker
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson missed the last couple of Liverpool games because of a personal matter. "He had to go back to Brazil," Slot said before the game with Yokohama Marinos in Japan.
"That's far from ideal... for him to not be there in a game like this, and in pre-season, it's also not ideal if you miss out on part of the preseason. But again, private life is more important in these matters than joining a game today."
Alisson is likely to be back available again here. If not, Giorgi Mamardashvili will be able to step in and deputize, having seemingly settled in well so far since his arrival from Valencia.
Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was missing from both friendlies with Athletic Club on Monday due to illness. He will presumably be back available again here as a result.
However, with Liverpool lacking numbers at center-back, it was a reminder of how quickly things can unravel into an injury crisis. Van Dijk and Joe Gomez were both absent, leaving Ibrahima Konate as the only senior defensive option.
Young midfielder Trey Nyoni impressed in the role, but he can't be relied upon regularly just yet, let alone in an unfamiliar role.
Joe Gomez
Having been sent home early from the Asia tour with an injury, Gomez isn't expected to be out for long. But equally, he might not be back in time to face Crystal Palace this weekend.
As long as Van Dijk and Konate are available, that won't be an issue. But again, it does underline the need for Liverpool to dip into the transfer market for a player in that position soon.
Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi could be one option. He will get the chance to impress at Wembley this weekend, though it remains to be exactly how much the Selhurst Park side would demand for his signature.
Conor Bradley
Like Gomez, Slot said that Conor Bradley might not make it back in time to play against Crystal Palace, potentially handing a chance to Jeremie Frimpong to bed himself into the starting XI at the start of the campaign.
Bradley has a minor muscle problem and Slot said it would be "tight" for him to return in time to play this weekend. The Irish full-back has had injury issues in the past and the Liverpool head coach will offer the latest on Friday.
Elsewhere, Ryan Gravenberch will be suspended for the Premier League clash with Bournemouth in eight days. However, he will be fine to play at Wembley, where he is likely to start alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.
