Liverpool injury return dates as Alisson, Hugo Ekitike, Giovanni Leoni all out

9 hours ago 29

Liverpool suffered another setback as it fell 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

The Reds were defeated after Victor Osimhen converted from the penalty spot to secure victory for the hosts, inflicting further misery on the visitors in Istanbul. Arne Slot's players have now dropped their previous two fixtures following their weekend loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Focus will now shift to Saturday's encounter when Liverpool travels to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool has already been compelled to address several selection headaches and fitness issues during the early stages of the campaign. The reverse against Galatasaray will now present Slot with additional choices to consider moving forward.

Here, we examine the current Liverpool injury situation and expected return dates.

Alisson Becker

Alisson Becker sustained an injury during Liverpool's reverse to Galatasaray in the Champions League. The goalkeeper required attention from the medical team in the second period before being withdrawn and replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Slot confirmed following the match that the Brazil international is anticipated to miss the encounter with Chelsea at the weekend.

"I have to manage minutes as well," Slot told Amazon Prime. "Hugo Ekitike going off, hopefully not in a bad way. Alisson going off. That's why we do need to rotate a bit. It's never positive if you go off like this. You can be sure that he's (Alisson) not playing on Saturday, so let's wait how long it is going to take. But he is definitely not going to play on Saturday."

Expected return date: Unknown

Hugo Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike also picked up a suspected injury during Liverpool's Champions League defeat to Galatasaray. The French forward signalled to the Liverpool dugout that he required medical attention for what looked like a muscular problem.

It's unclear whether Ekitike will face a spell out with Chelsea's Premier League visit looming at the weekend. Speaking about Ekitike, Slot explained: "He felt something when he had to reach for the ball, I think we all know which moment it was.

"When we were trying to force something, I thought I can't get that long of a time, on the other side there was someone on the floor as well, the referee blew his whistle and I wasn't really thinking that we had an injury, but Hugo felt something.

"And after the game, that's always the difficult thing with these moments, when players feel like, oh, it's not too bad, but when you just walk around with something different, and when you make a spin, you have to shoot another one from the target. He said he couldn't continue, so we had to take him off. Let's see how he responds."

Expected return date: Unknown

Giovanni Leoni

Giovanni Leoni is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ACL injury in last week's Carabao Cup victory over Southampton. The injury occurred during the final moments of his debut match for the Reds, and it's anticipated that he'll be out of action for most, if not all, of the season.

Expected return date: 2026
