Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher tells struggling Man Utd what it must do

2 hours ago 2

Following Manchester United's recent Premier League defeat, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has expressed his doubts about Ruben Amorim's ability to turn the tide at the club.

The Red Devils' performance was lacklustre in their 3-1 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium over the weekend. Keith Andrews' team quickly established a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes, courtesy of a double from Igor Thiago. Benjamin Sesko managed to reduce the deficit with his debut goal for United since his summer transfer.

However, the game's pivotal moment came when Amorim's team was awarded a penalty after Bryan Mbeumo was pulled down by his former teammate, Nathan Collins.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed the incident to determine if the Brentford defender had prevented the United forward from a potential scoring opportunity, following referee Craig Pawson's decision to issue Collins a yellow card.

After a four-minute delay, which included a double substitution from the home side, VAR concluded that the offence did not warrant a red card.

Bruno Fernandes took the penalty, but his attempt was thwarted by former Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

The situation deteriorated further when Mathias Jensen netted a third goal during injury time, adding more strain on the Portuguese head coach.

This result leaves United languishing in 14th place, having secured only seven points from the team's first six games.

There are rumors that the club's management has prepared a three-man shortlist as potential replacements for Amorim.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher said: "I think he's still in a job because I think the powers that be at Manchester United have made that many mistakes, so far in the decisions that they've made on and off the pitch that almost don't want to admit right not, that they don't want to make another.

"This has been a disaster for Manchester United but also for Ruben Amorim.

"What he did at Sporting Lisbon was fantastic. He looked like the next big thing as a manager, but bringing in a manager like that in, in terms of the system that he played, I don't think really suited the traditions of Manchester United.

"The quicker Manchester United make the decision on the manager, I think it's better for everybody because as I said, it's been a disaster for the club, but also the manager.

"We're only waiting for the inevitable.

"Unfortunately, as Duncan (Ferguson) said, you don't want to see people lose their jobs, but his has to end as quickly as possible."
