Liverpool legend set to leave club next year — and 'everything points to Celtic move'

4 hours ago 26

Liverpool legend Andy Robertson will reportedly leave the club at the end of the season, with a move to Scottish Premiership club Celtic the most likely scenario.

Robertson's Liverpool contract will expire in June 2026, and Spanish outlet Fichajes says that he is unlikely to remain at the club beyond next summer.

The 31-year-old left-back is likely to return north of the border to join Celtic – the club he played for as a boy before being released after it considering him to be too small.

Robertson will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of England from January 1 next year, and Celtic could benefit from signing a player with his experience after a difficult period of late.

Considering the report comes from Fichajes, it should be taken with a pinch of salt, as it is not the most reliable source of transfer information.

Robertson has reclaimed his place in Liverpool's first-choice team in recent weeks amid summer signing Milos Kerkez's difficult start to the season.

The Scotland international has been Liverpool's starting left-back for the best part of a decade, but he found himself out of the line-up in the first nine league games of the season.

However, Robertson has now started four games in a row in all competitions after Slot took the decision to take Kerkez out of the team after the recent 3-2 loss to Brentford.

Slot was asked about Robertson's age – 31 – ahead of Liverpool's loss to Manchester City over the weekend, and said that he does not view the former Hull defender's age as a barrier to him being an important player to the squad.

"Over 30 doesn't tell me anything," said Slot. "If I look at Virgil, Mo and Robbo, who was last season also above 30, all three of them were able to win the Premier League and all three of them played a big part in it.

"If a 24-year-old doesn't play as well, nobody talks about his age. If a 32, 33, 34-year-old has one or two bad games people start talking about age.

"That is how things work in this industry. But I think 32, I wouldn't say that that is old for a football player in my opinion."
