Liverpool makes Adidas jersey decision for Community Shield as rules confirmed

Liverpool will debut its new away kit when the team faces Crystal Palace in the Community Shield this Sunday.

The Reds revealed their new kits for the upcoming season at the beginning of the month, following the establishment of a decade-long partnership with German kit manufacturer Adidas earlier this year, which replaced their previous agreement with Nike.

Arne Slot's players sported the new home colours in both friendly matches against Athletic Bilbao last Monday at Anfield. They will now don their away kit - characterised by ecru shirts and socks with black shorts - for the first time against Palace at Wembley.

The club announced on Friday that more home and away kits had been sold in the past week than ever before, with the home kit sales surpassing last year's launch by over 700 percent, receiving orders from more than 150 countries.

Liverpool will face off against Palace with the aim of securing the Community Shield - formerly known as the Charity Shield - for the 17th time, equalling Arsenal's total. Only Manchester United, with 21, has won more.

If the match is tied after 90 minutes, it will proceed directly to penalties, and both teams will be permitted to make-up to six substitutions from a bench of nine players.

Semi-automated offside technology will be utilised, with in-stadium announcements for any decision on reviewed incidents, which will be made by referee Chris Kavanagh.

Wembley will also host a tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically lost their lives in a car accident last month. Wreaths will be placed in honor and remembrance of the duo prior to kick-off, and a moment of silence will be observed just before the match commences.

Liverpool unveiled its new kits earlier this month.

Ben Latty, the chief commercial officer at Liverpool, said: "This is more than just the launch of a new kit – it marks the beginning of a 10-year relationship for LFC and Adidas.

"Since announcing the partnership in March, there's been a huge sense of anticipation and excitement. This first collection sets the tone for seasons to come."

Sam Handy, the GM at Adidas football, added: "The return of Adidas to Liverpool FC is a momentous occasion for us. Seeing our iconic three stripes adorning Liverpool FC kits again is something we're incredibly proud of.

"The home jersey is a true representation of the Liverpool DNA – classy and understated – while the away jersey pays homage to the club's rich history.

"I speak on behalf of everyone at Adidas when I say this is just the start of an incredible journey and we're extremely excited for what's to come."
