Liverpool makes announcement after 'issues with aircraft' before Frankfurt game

2 weeks ago 8

Liverpool's pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt has been cancelled after the Reds' flight to Germany was delayed due to technical issues.

A statement released by the club said: "Liverpool's pre-match press conference for the Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt has been cancelled.

"Arne Slot and a member of his squad were set to speak to the media at Deutsche Bank Park upon arrival in Germany on Tuesday evening.

"However, a delay in the Reds squad's scheduled flight out to Frankfurt, due to technical issues with the aircraft, means the briefing will now not be able to take place."

It's understood Dominik Szoboszlai was the player due to speak to the media.

The cancelled press conference means there will be no update from Slot on the fitness of Ryan Gravenberch, with the Dutch midfielder missing from Tuesday's open training.

Slot said at the weekend that the former Bayern Munich man would need to be assessed after he suffered a blow to his ankle in the defeat against Manchester United, and it is presumed that Gravenberch will not travel with the squad to Germany.

However, Wataru Endo is expected to be among the squad. The 32-year-old missed Sunday's match and was not involved for Japan over the international break, returned to training on Tuesday.

The abandonment of the press conference means Slot will also not be able to discuss his preparations for the Frankfurt game, or how he hopes to end the club's four-match losing run.

The Dutchman has faced criticism in the wake of the United match, with a trip to Dubai during the international break becoming a major talking point on social media in recent days.
