Liverpool is in crisis mode after yet another defeat, with Saturday’s loss at home to Nottingham Forest perhaps the most concerning in what has been an unacceptable run of form in anyone’s books.
Arne Slot’s side slumped to an eighth defeat in its last 11 games, and more crucially a sixth loss in the last seven Premier League outings as the title defense looks to have well and truly run its course already.
After just 12 league games, catching Arsenal already looks to be well out of reach, and now there are serious questions being asked about Slot’s position and his underperforming players.
Record signing Alexander Isak drew another blank after somewhat surprisingly being given the nod to start against Forest, while Ibrahima Konate’s withdrawal in the second half spoke volumes not only about his season, but Liverpool’s in general.
Having dropped all the way to 11th now - a position that could get even worse if Everton beats Manchester United on Monday - the Reds are already in a fight to salvage their season, with even a top-four finish looking like a challenge now.
And with the pressure building on Slot, the outlook is clear over the next few games - Liverpool simply cannot afford any more defeats.
Liverpool's next 5 fixtures
- PSV (H) - Champions League, November 26
- West Ham (A) - Premier League, November 30
- Sunderland (H) - Premier League, December 3
- Leeds (A) - Premier League, December 6
- Inter Milan (A) - Champions League, December 9
It's a quick turnaround for the Reds as they host PSV Eindhoven next at Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday. At this stage, Europe looks as though it could be the one saving grace for Liverpool, given it is in a good position to finish in the top eight of the league phase.
That game against PSV though has the potential to really rub salt into Slot's wounds - you can just imagine what the headlines would be like back in the Netherlands if the former Feyenoord boss fell to a defeat to his old rivals.

Attention then turns back to the Premier League, with three back-to-back fixtures which Liverpool simply has to win now. West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds would have looked like a favorable run not too long ago, but now any fixture holds peril for the Reds.
West Ham's recent resurgence makes next weekend's meeting particularly daunting now, with Nuno Espirito Santo having led his side to seven points from their last three games, and we all know about the problems Liverpool had against his Forest side last season.
A trip to Milan then provides the Reds with a stern test of its Champions League credentials - Slot will just hope the club hasn't been forced into making a drastic decision on his future before then.
