Liverpool's defeat to Manchester United on Sunday has left the team teetering on the brink of an unwanted record, with a Champions League showdown against Eintracht Frankfurt looming.
The Reds are heading to Germany in an attempt to halt a four-match losing streak across all competitions. A loss to the Bundesliga side would mark their fifth consecutive defeat - a low point not seen since September 1953 for the Merseyside club.
This unfortunate streak began with a last-minute defeat at Crystal Palace, followed by losses to Galatasaray and Chelsea. The international break did little to reset the team's fortunes, as United secured a shock win at Anfield.
The last time Liverpool suffered four consecutive defeats was under Brendan Rodgers' management in 2014, when Newcastle, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Palace all triumphed over Liverpool within a three-week span.
Summer recruit Hugo Ekitike will be hoping his new team's poor run doesn't continue when he returns to his old stomping ground. His impressive performance at Frankfurt was what persuaded Liverpool to sign him during the summer.
Liverpool's recent form has seen the team lose its top spot to Arsenal.
Manchester City, a team that was trailing Liverpool by eight points just a few weeks ago, has now overtaken the Reds, moving into second place.
Bournemouth is third, with Liverpool in fourth.
Arne Slot declined to dismiss his side's recent struggles as merely a "blip" as defeats continue to mount.
Several of Liverpool's key players are failing to reach the standards they've set in previous campaigns, with the Dutch manager urging his players to rise above their current predicament.
He remarked: "That depends on if we can keep bringing these performances in, and as we all know in football if you start to lose a game of football one, two, then three, then four, you always find the same challenges.
"Players that thought they maybe had to play longer, or didn't deserve to go out, or these kind of things."
Liverpool certainly doesn't face a kind fixture list in the coming weeks.
After the Reds' journey to Germany, they travel to Brentford, who have proven troublesome for the Premier League's elite sides. They subsequently welcome Palace in the Carabao Cup before entertaining Aston Villa to wrap up a demanding spell of four matches in 10 days.
