Liverpool player ratings, winners and losers as the year 2025 comes to an end, with Dominik Szoboszlai and two more of Arne Slot's teammates standing above the rest

Liverpool won the Premier League title at a canter in May, but now faces a challenge to finish in the Champions League spots a season later. It has been a calendar year of two halves.
For that reason, handing out player ratings for the 12-month period is not as easy as it sounds. Only those who have been regularly involved, either as starters or off the bench, have been rated.
That means Wataru Endo misses out, and Giovanni Leoni, who only made one appearance before his ACL injury, does too. And first, here are our Liverpool.com winners and losers for 2025...

Dominik Szoboszlai has been the most consistent performer for Liverpool. The Hungarian has been superb for most of the year, with his energy seemingly relentless.
Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have been strong too, of course, though Mohamed Salah has started to tail off. Florian Wirtz, it feels, could be about to really catapult himself forward and show why the Reds spent $157 million (£116 million) on him, but he hasn't fully come to the party just yet.
Losers
Alexander Isak was a mega-money signing but Liverpool simply hasn't seen the fruits of that move yet, while Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and others have been held back by various injury issues.
Performance-wise, Ibrahima Konate has had a strange few months, while Federico Chiesa has barely got a look-in. Arne Slot has some big calls to make in terms of the transfer market as a result, with the outcome of contract talks to factor in as well.
Player ratings
Alisson Becker (8). This year has been pretty standard for Alisson. At times, he has been brilliant. At other times, he has been injured. He's reliable when he's fit, but tends to pick up muscle issues.
Giorgi Mamardashvili (6). We've not seen enough of him to make a proper judgment yet but he just about gets in having made 10 appearances so far for Liverpool. Lots of potential but nowhere near Alisson's level right now, with more development to do.
Conor Bradley (7). A lot like Alisson, injuries have held him back. There have been outstanding games, but just when he looks to get on a run, he seems to pick up a knock. Staying fit is the next step for him.
Jeremie Frimpong (6). Injuries is fast becoming a key word here, but the same applies to Frimpong. Signed from Bayer Leverkusen, he has a lot of the raw materials but needs some more coaching and consistency at Liverpool.
Ibrahima Konate (6). It's hard to know where to start here. The Frenchman has been dreadful at times, but has also gone long spells looking very confident. He seems to be out of the period where one mistake leads to a total collapse, but he should be entering the peak years of his career and there is still a question mark over his future.
Virgil van Dijk (8). Standard stuff from the Liverpool skipper, really. Not as his absolute peak, but reliable at the back and still one of the very best around.

Joe Gomez (5). More so than any other player, held back by injuries. He's brilliant when he's fit and firing, but that hasn't been often enough to make him a reliable option.
Milos Kerkez (6). Far too early to be making sweeping statements about him, but it has been mixed so far. Much more to come, for sure, but we haven't seen the same player as last season just yet.
Andy Robertson (6). Dependable and seemingly much better off for playing more sporadically. Last season, when he was playing every week, he wasn't as good. Now he is able to remain fresher, he looks better for it. A contract extension should be agreed, but he is another out of contract when the summer comes as things stand.
Ryan Gravenberch (7). Sensational for large periods and a key man in the title success. Went off the boil at the start of this season but has since got back to something like his best.
Alexis Mac Allister (7). Missed the end of the season through injury and took a long time to recover. He has had his moments (like scoring a wondergoal on the day of Liverpool lifting the Premier League title), but not consistently enough.
Curtis Jones (7). Really come into his own in the last few weeks but before that, was on the edges of the team. If he carries on like this, he'll get a very high score this time next year.
Dominik Szoboszlai (8). One of the top performers in the calendar year. Started it very well and this season has been Liverpool's best player. Huge amounts of energy and increasingly influential.

Mohamed Salah (7). An odd year for the Egyptian, who has only scored 16 times in the Premier League in 2025. The new contract was a no-brainer at the time, but he has something to prove when he returns from AFCON.
Florian Wirtz (7). Started slowly but really looks to be getting up to speed now. Of all the Liverpool players, he is the one who should really kick on the most in the new year. His score would be higher including what he did for Bayer Leverkusen in the first half of the year.
Cody Gakpo (7). Good, but not great. He ended last season with 18 goals, which is a very good return, but hasn't been playing that well since. Too often on the periphery.
Hugo Ekitike (7). Made the best start of the players who arrived in the summer. Liverpool needed two quality strikers and in the Frenchman, it definitely has one.
Alexander Isak (4). Though things have not gone well so far, we have seen glimpses of what Isak can do. The goals he has scored have been very well taken, but the road to recovery and then match sharpness will be a long one.
Federico Chiesa (5). As an impact substitute, a useful asset. As a player for the starting XI, it appears to be a non-starter. He just doesn't have the physical attributes to excel in a league that is so demanding.
