Freddie Woodman celebrates scoring
Liverpool moved up to fourth in the table courtesy of a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Reds had established a healthy half-time lead when Alexander Isak netted his first home league goal for the club, and Andy Robertson scored potentially his last for the club not long before half-time.
But Palace responded in the second half with a controversial goal via Daniel Munoz goal as goalkeeper Freddie Woodman lay prone on the deck following a collision with Ismaila Sarr that sparked a furious reaction from the home dugout. But Liverpool grabbed a late third from Florian Wirtz to earn victory and move eight points clear in the race for the top five.
Winners
On his full Premier League debut for the club, Woodman made four top saves to deny Palace, a club he is heavily connected to. The keeper even had a helping hand when Jorgen Strand Larsen's shot beat Woodman and then struck both posts. He was cheered by the Kop End after the game, with chants of "England's no.1" during the game. It was also another important win for Arne Slot, as he looks to secure a Champions League finish.
Losers
Munoz was the least popular man inside Anfield when he chose to loft the ball over the injured Woodman and into the goal. Unsurprisingly, he was jeered for the remainder of the game. With Mohamed Salah coming off through injury, the Liverpool winger will hope he has not suffered a serious problem.
Player ratings
Freddie Woodman (8). So impressive was the goalkeeper's display at Anfield, he was serenated with chants of "England's no.1" during a first half in which he twice denied Jean-Philippe Mateta and the pushed a Maxene Lacroix effort on to the post. From one of those Mateta saves, a Liverpool counter-attack resulted in Robertson's goal. It was an excellent day for the third-choice keeper on his first-ever Premier League start for the club, who also made an important save from Sarr before Munoz's controversial goal.
Curtis Jones (8). Picked up where he left off last week against Everton, with an impressive showing at Anfield. Jones dealt well with the attacking threat of Tyrick Mitchell and helped Liverpool's build-up play from the back. It was his defense-splitting pass that resulted in Robertson's goal, while the academy gradute provided several bursting runs from right-back.
Ibrahima Konate (7). Solid throughout and rarely looked troubled at the heart of defense. He held off Brennan Johnson when he broke into the box in the second half.
Virgil van Dijk (6). Had a few awkward moments early on against Mateta, but grew into the contest. The center-back was a colossal figure in both boxes from set-pieces.
Andy Robertson (7). His goal was a moment to savor for fans, and surely his last in a red shirt. The Scotland captain finished impressively into the bottom corner and screamed in delight as the ball rippled the back of the net. In possession, he enjoyed a good afternoon and made few defensive errors.
Alexis Mac Allister (6). His shot led to Isak's opening goal and, like a few in red, he improved after a slow start.
Dominik Szoboszlai (6). Brought plenty of energy to the midfield and helped ticking the ball ticking over, even if there were no moments of magic from a man who has provided plenty this season.
Mohamed Salah (8). The Reds' standout performer in the first half on one of his final outings at Anfield. Salah carried a repeated threat down the right flank, and typically bamboozled Jaydee Canvot with his trickery and movement. It was from one such incident that Liverpool took the lead, as Salah's ball into the ball ended up at the feet of Mac Allister. Sadly the game ended with him coming off with an injury, which appeared to a hamstring problem.
Florian Wirtz (7). Played an excellent pass to Salah midway through the first half which resulted in the overturned penalty. Wirtz linked the play excellently an produced several impressive touches throughout, before netting an important strike late on.
Cody Gakpo (6). Didn't have a huge impact on proceedings but still put in a solid display. His best moment came via a defense-splitting pass to Isak early in the second half.
Alexander Isak (6). Was perhaps a tad fortunate with his goal, which bounced over Henderson after he shot into the ground. Only Isak will truly know if he meant it. The striker struggled to get involved before the goal, but improved as the game continued, and looked close to a second on a few occasions.
Substitutes
Jeremie Frimpoing (5). Struggled to adapt to the intensity of the game and was sloppy in possession.
Ryan Gravenberch (6). Brought added protection and stability to midfield after his late introduction.
Joe Gomez (N/A). Milos Kerkez (N/A)
