RAMS PARK, ISTANBUL // After a dismal performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Liverpool put in a disjointed and lethargic showing against Galatasaray, falling to a Champions League defeat in Turkey.
Victor Osimhen opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a very minor foul from Dominik Szoboszlai but that didn't seem to wake Liverpool up. It wasn't anywhere near as bad a first half as at Selhurst Park last weekend, but it was far from encouraging.
Injuries to Alisson Becker and Hugo Ekitike made things even worse for Liverpool, though there are still six more games left in the Champions League group phase. The Reds should still find a way to reach the knockouts.
Winners
Once again, Alisson Becker needed to earn his money. The Liverpool goalkeeper was called into action a few times and was required to showcase his shot-stopping ability. No one else really stood out in terms of their performance level, with Ekitike showing some good signs but not being clinical enough when the chances came his way. An improvement is needed across the board.
Losers
Ryan Gravenberch has been good this season but this wasn't his best showing. Jeremie Frimpong on the right wing missed a chance to impress, while Ibrahima Konate was sloppy again. Collectively, Liverpool didn't have enough intensity and was unable to really leave a proper impression on the fixture in an attacking sense. Alisson and Ekitike going off injured was far from ideal too.
Player ratings
Alisson Becker (7). Perhaps the only Liverpool man to emerge with credit against Crystal Palace, the Brazilian was called into action early here and made a good save from Baris Alper Yilmaz. Went off injured in the second half but had done well to that point.
Dominik Szoboszlai (5). Slotting in at right-back again, where he has excelled so far this season, he gave away a penalty but it was soft to say the least. Several of his crosses hit the first man, though, and he didn't offer much in possession.
Ibrahima Konate (5). There were a few gaps down his side that Galatasaray players threaded balls through. He should have leveled from a corner when he had a free header inside the six-yard box. Gifting the ball too many times, he was sloppy.
Virgil van Dijk (6). Some of his passes were raked out to the right wing but without Mohamed Salah there, they didn't end up as devastating as they might have been. Some of the panic caused by Konate alongside him seemed to spread on occasion.
Milos Kerkez (6). Some thought that we might see Andy Robertson here but it was the Hungary man who was given the nod. He was full of energy and put in a decent performance for the first half an hour or so, but faded quickly.

Ryan Gravenberch (5). Gave the ball away too easily on too many occasions, not least when he was booked for fouling Osimhen right on the edge of the penalty area. He has been good this season, but really wasn't here.
Curtis Jones (5). Brought into the team in part for rotation and in part because of his ability to keep the ball, there is a fine line between dallying and taking the sting out of the game, which he found out too often. He can do a lot more.
Jeremie Frimpong (5). He has been really poor in some recent performances but looked a little better on the wing for a while. Still, very predictable and didn't really show his electric pace, which is arguably his biggest weapon.
Florian Wirtz (6). Back in a central position after he was shifted to the left (kind of) against Crystal Palace, he looked much more comfortable. The German picked up some good positions but he just looks a bit too weak at times.
Cody Gakpo (6). A strong presence on the left flank, Gakpo was an out-ball. He offered width, which was desperately missed before he was introduced against Crystal Palace. Decent enough, but nothing more.
Hugo Ekitike (6). He should have scored seconds before the opening goal at the other end, but linked play really nicely and looked very good at bringing others into play. Mixed, and also went off injured.
Substitutes
Giorgi Mamardashvili (6). On in the second half for the injured Alisson, he slotted into the game well. He didn't have loads to do but his distribution was good.
Mohamed Salah (7). Injected some urgency into the Liverpool attack. Good without being great.
Alexis Mac Allister (6). Tenacious at times but gave the ball away a few times. Mixed.
Alexander Isak (6). Not hugely involved. Had one snapshot that was easily saved and tried to hold the ball up without much impact.
Conor Bradley (6). Harshly cautioned but didn't offer that much in the final third. Certainly better than last Saturday.
