Florian Wirtz has been backed to come good for Liverpool, despite his slow start to his Liverpool career.
The Germany international joined Liverpool for a mammoth fee during the summer transfer window but is yet to score for his new club, and is also without an assist in the Premier League.
Liverpool on the whole has had a tough start to the season, having lost seven of its last 10 games in all competitions to fall well off the pace in the title race as well as drop out of the League Cup. Wirtz has been many observers' scapegoat for Liverpool's poor start, with suggestions that he has upset the balance of a team that was so impressive last season.
Former Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan has defended the Germany international, though, saying that there have been enough signs of quality to suggest the move will eventually work out.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer Champions League odds, Biscan said: “Everybody expects Florian Wirtz to become one of the best players in the Premier League, and not because of his price tag.
“Even when he's not doing really well on the pitch in all those games, there's always enough moments, enough situations that everybody can see the quality with so many good decisions, good passes but they don’t get finished.
“The real class is there. He's constantly on the move. He's maybe even trying too hard now because he feels a little bit of pressure, of course, but the quality is there.
“The class is there, and with so many good players they are probably a little bit angry with the situation now that everybody is doubting the team.
“I wouldn't be surprised if they go on a great run of winning games and then to really be back challenging for the title.”
Some of Wirtz's better performances have come in the Champions League, and Biscan believes that the slower tempo of European games have suited him while he continues to adapt to the ferocious pace of the Premier League.
“I don't know how Wirtz feels when he plays in Europe, but I think when he plays in the Champions League games, there is a little more space and time on the ball for him when you compare the rhythm or style of play to the Premier League," Biscan added.
“It's not so intense, and for this reason, he just finds it a little easier, and then he can show what he's capable of showing and that's just pure class, he could help Liverpool go all the way.
“So for that reason, I believe he looks better when he plays in the Champions League because the Champions League level, I would say in those stages, is not the same quality as the Premier League.”
