Liverpool's fantasy 25-man squad for Premier League season opener

5 days ago 61

Liverpool has just over three weeks left before the summer transfer window shuts, and arguably, there's still a fair bit of business to conclude.

It's already been a bustling summer for the Reds in the transfer arena with seven fresh faces joining Arne Slot's squad ahead of their Premier League title defense.

Bournemouth at Anfield is what awaits Liverpool on the inaugural day of the Premier League season next Friday. Prior to that, the Reds will face off against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, and there's potential for further alterations to the squad at Slot's command.

Another exit from the squad is already on the cards with Darwin Nunez nearing his departure from Liverpool. The Reds have struck a deal worth an initial £46.3 million ($62.3 million) for the forward, which will see him transition to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

There's also the possibility of Harvey Elliott parting ways with Liverpool in the coming days or weeks. The attacking midfielder has been associated with RB Leipzig recently and could bid farewell to the Reds before the season opener against Bournemouth if an agreement is reached.

Regarding new recruits, Liverpool continues to be linked with a move for Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United striker has been the subject of a £110 million ($148 million) rejected offer, but in an ideal world, a deal would be settled between the Reds and the Magpies in the not-too-distant future.

Liverpool is also heavily linked with signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Palace is reported to value Guehi at around £50 million ($67.25 million), but it remains to be seen if the Reds will be able to agree on a deal this summer.

Rumors have also linked Liverpool with a move for Lyon star Malick Fofana and a possible move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola.

Whether there is any truth in either of those pieces of speculation remains to be seen, but the Reds would be wise to bring in another wide forward before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool is required to have no more than 17 non-homegrown players when they submit their Premier League squad.

As per the Premier League website: "A 'Home Grown Player' means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

"A club's Under-21 players are not included on the 25-man squad lists. These players are also eligible to play in the Premier League."
