Liverpool striker Jayden Danns is stepping up his return from injury ahead of the second half of the season.
The youngster, who has had rotten luck with injuries in general over the last 18 months, appeared as a substitute in Liverpool's League Cup win over Southampton earlier this season.
However, Danns picked up a hamstring injury just a few days after that game in an appearance for the Under-21s, and subsequently underwent a minor operation in a bid to prevent the issue from recurring.
Danns joined Sunderland on a loan deal until the end of last season in February, but an issue with his back that came to light during his medical meant he immediately returned to Liverpool to recover, and never actually took part in a training session with the North East club.
The Daily Mail says that Danns is a few weeks ahead of schedule with his recovery from his latest injury, and that he recently returned to doing ball work on the grass.
There are said to be a few clubs that are interested in taking Danns on loan during the January transfer window, but it is suggested that it would be best for Danns to build his body back up by playing regularly for the Under-21s.
Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley are much closer to returning to action after their recent struggles with muscle injuries.
Bradley has not figured since the November international break, having returned from Northern Ireland duty with a muscle injury, while Frimpong has not appeared for the Reds since suffering a hamstring injury in a Champions League game away to Frankfurt on October 22.
Bradley could be back in the side against Leeds this weekend, while Frimpong's return should come later in the month.
“Conor got into a training session yesterday for the first time, team training," Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said on Tuesday. “Not everything 100 per cent yet, we had to manage that a little bit, so don’t get your hopes up too soon, too fast. But the good thing is that he does certain parts with the group already... I hope he [Bradley] will be available for Leeds.”
Slot added: "We expect the same (for Frimpong to return to training) next week, so the two of them (Frimpong and Bradley) come back but unfortunately we play a lot of games.
"So Jeremie, if he is training with us next week, he will miss out on three more games, for example. But the two of them are coming back."
