Liverpool has certainly had better weekends in the Premier League. The Reds, still reeling from their last-minute defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday, had to endure Arsenal's late turnaround victory over Newcastle at St James's Park on Sunday afternoon.
Nick Woltemade's header looked set to secure a win for the Magpies over the Gunners until Mikel Merino nodded home Declan Rice's cross in the 84th minute. The day got even better for Arsenal when center-back Gabriel headed in the winning goal from substitute Martin Odegaard's corner during injury time.
Newcastle's defeat was a bitter pill to swallow, especially after their previous 3-2 loss to Liverpool last month due to Rio Ngumoha's 100th-minute winner.
Liverpool, the masters of late goals this season, met their match at Selhurst Park yesterday, where the former Arsenal player Eddie Nketiah scored in the 97th minute to defeat the Reds.
Federico Chiesa had earlier leveled the score with just three minutes of normal time left after Liverpool fell behind to an Ismaila Sarr strike in the first half.
These results have caused a three-point shift in the Premier League table, although Liverpool still leads with 15 points from their six matches, compared to Arsenal's 13 from their six.
"It is mayhem on the pitch and it is mayhem up there [in the stands]," Gary Neville said on Sky Sports commentary. "That feels absolutely huge. We are in September and it shouldn't do!
The upcoming weeks in the Premier League are shaping up to be quite interesting, with Liverpool set to face both Chelsea and Manchester City in their next five matches.
In addition to these fixtures, the Reds will also host Manchester United and Aston Villa, and travel to Brentford before the year's third and final international break.
On the other hand, Arsenal seems to have a more favorable schedule, with home games against West Ham and Crystal Palace, and away matches at Fulham, Burnley, and Sunderland.
