Both Liverpool and Manchester City received a boost ahead of their colossal Premier League showdown on Sunday, as Arsenal faltered in a dramatic match at Sunderland, dropping points for only the third time this season.
Liverpool would have been optimistic that Sunderland, the Black Cats, could lend them a hand when ex-Gunners defender Dan Ballard netted the opener for the home side in the first half.
However, Arsenal rallied in the second half, equalising with a clever near post finish from Bukayo Saka. A stunning strike from the edge of the box by Leandro Trossard, 16 minutes from the end, seemed to have clinched all three points for the visitors.
Yet, a late spectacular goal from substitute Brian Brobbey saw Arsenal relinquish two points, ensuring they would only extend their lead to seven points over Manchester City and eight over Liverpool.
The draw means Arsenal have now triumphed in eight of their opening 11 Premier League matches of the season, only losing points in a 1-0 defeat at Anfield, a 1-1 stalemate at home to Manchester City, and now in Sunderland, reports the Liverpool Echo.
This result piles even more pressure onto Sunday's clash between City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. Following this, Liverpool will be hoping for a more forgiving fixture list after the final international break of 2025.
When club football resumes on 22 November, Liverpool will welcome Nottingham Forest before facing West Ham (away, 30 November), Sunderland (home, 3 December), Leeds (away, 6 December) and Brighton (home, 13 December). They also have Champions League matches against PSV Eindhoven (home) and Inter Milan (away) during this period.
On the other hand, Arsenal seems to have a more challenging fixture list after the international break.
The league leaders will kick off with a North London derby against Tottenham (home, 23 November), followed by Chelsea (away, 30 November), Brentford (home, 3 December), Aston Villa (away, 6 December), Wolves (home, 13 December) and Everton (away, 21 December).
In addition to these fixtures, Arteta's squad will face Bayern Munich (home) and Club Brugge (away) in the Champions League, and they'll also need to squeeze in a Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace before Christmas.
