Liverpool 'scouting' two players with same surname as Marc Guehi alternatives

1 hour ago 3

Liverpool has reportedly identified two potential alternatives to Marc Guehi - and both players coincidentally have the same surname.

Guehi is of course of interest to the Reds after he was denied a deadline day move to Anfield during the summer. Despite a deal being agreed with Crystal Palace, the club’s chairman Steve Parish pulled the plug at the eleventh hour, with Eagles boss Oliver Glasner having insisted he didn’t want the defender to leave.

Despite the setback, Guehi continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool, and it appears to be a foregone conclusion that he will leave Selhurst Park, whether his departure comes in January or when he’s available for free next summer.

Of course, the 25-year-old potentially being available for nothing will interest plenty of other clubs other than Liverpool, and Bayern Munich has also been linked. The German club also has the advantage of being able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Guehi from January, a luxury that the Reds won’t be afforded.

Liverpool may therefore need some alternatives lined up, and according to the Daily Mail, two Ecuadorian defenders are baing eyed up.

It’s suggested that Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez is being scouted as one potential option. The 21-year-old has actually been linked with Liverpool for around a year now, and was also touted for a move to Palace during the summer as a potential replacement for Guehi.

He would obviously be viewed as a long-term option in defense for the Reds, as would fellow countryman Deinner Ordonez.

The 16-year-old is currently making his way through the academy at Independiente del Valle - the same club that produced the likes of Piero Hincapie and Moises Caicedo. It’s claimed that Liverpool is watching his progress alongside other clubs, including Chelsea.

The report adds that youth scouts have described him as the best player of his age group throughout South America, meaning we might be seeing more of him in the near future, regardless of whether he makes the move to Anfield or not.

Although the Ordonez duo are touted as alternatives to Guehi, the Mail does insist that Guehi is “definitely” still an option for Liverpool.

What’s more, rumors linking the England international with Real Madrid are said to be untrue at this stage.

Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni is also mentioned, with the report suggesting that the Italy international shouldn’t be ruled out ahead of next summer, although there doesn’t appear to be anything concrete on him at the moment.

Liverpool.com says: If Guehi still wants the move to Liverpool, then the Reds should make sure they get him, whether it's in January or next summer. Of course, there is the danger of his head being turned by another club in the meantime, so it's good to hear that the club is identifying potential alternatives.
