Liverpool has been told Anthony Gordon could look to leave Newcastle over the next few years - although the Reds have been warned the former Everton star won’t be cheap.
Gordon has been linked with a move to Anfield for some time now. A transfer was on the cards last year as Newcastle looked to ease its PSR concerns, although the deal never went through due to the Magpies wanting Jarell Quansah in return.
After that saga, Gordon went on to sign a new long-term contract at St James’ Park, keeping him in the north-east until 2030 - although the links with Liverpool have persisted.
The England international’s support for the Reds has no doubt played a role in that, with Gordon having played at Liverpool’s academy before switching to Everton at a young age.
He has also made no secret of his admiration for some of Liverpool’s legends, such as Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah, and former Newcastle star Chris Waddle believes a move to Anfield may still be on the cards - although not any time soon.
Speaking to Boyle Sports, who offer football betting, Waddle said: “I don't know how much money Liverpool have left; they've spent a lot.
“I think they were looking at Anthony Gordon because they were thinking about Luis Diaz moving to Bayern. Diaz is a really good player who played well for Liverpool, so they were probably lining up some money to replace him.
“They went for Florian Wirtz and they have other players now. Gordon may still be on their radar, but maybe next season or the season after.
“I think Anthony Gordon has a long-term deal at Newcastle, so if they do come for him, he won't be cheap. It will be a situation where a lot of money is involved.
“At the minute, Liverpool's problems are more than just a left-winger, so I can't see anything happening there. I think Anthony Gordon, one day – maybe two, three, or four years from now – will eventually want to move on and follow patterns set by other players.

“Right now, he has the World Cup coming up, and he's not guaranteed to make it into the top teams, let's be honest.
“So he's at Newcastle at the moment, in the best position to think about going to the World Cup. He's enjoying his football at Newcastle, so why would he want to leave?”
Liverpool.com says: Gordon is clearly a player Liverpool likes - it wouldn’t have been willing to sign him last year if that wasn’t the case.
No doubt he will continue to be linked with a move to Anfield, but you doubt whether anything would be on the cards in the next year or so, and three or four years, as Waddle suggests, might be too late for Liverpool to consider.
