Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has received support from his ex-teammates following his second injury setback of the season.

The England star, who left Liverpool during the summer, is facing a two-month layoff due to a quad injury. The injury occurred during the midweek 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, with Real Madrid subsequently confirming the unfortunate news in a statement.

Madrid announced: Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the rectus anterior quadriceps in his left leg. His progress will be monitored."

Upon confirmation of the injury, Alexander-Arnold expressed his disappointment on social media on Friday, writing: "Absolutely gutted about this one.

"The timing of it hurts, but I will work hard to come back stronger and better! See you in 2026 Madridistas."

Support poured in for the former Liverpool star from current and former Reds players. In response, Andy Robertson commented: "Stay positive brother" - accompanied by a red heart emoji.

Jordan Henderson replied with a praying and red heart emoji.

Alexander-Arnold bid farewell to Liverpool in the summer after running down his contract. His stint at the Bernabeu has been fraught with challenges, with a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the defender and the club as a whole.

Injuries have plagued Alexander-Arnold, with recurring hamstring problems sidelining him until his comeback last month.

The former Anfield favorite made his return to Liverpool in the Champions League, where he was met with jeers from the Anfield crowd as he entered the pitch as a substitute.

The intermittent nature of his appearances has made Alexander-Arnold's move somewhat nightmarish so far, with off-pitch concerns about the club adding to the woes.

There are murmurs of discontent within the Madrid squad regarding Xabi Alonso's management style, with reports suggesting that Vinicius Jr is among those who have a tense relationship with the new boss.

The jury is still out on how things will pan out for Alexander-Arnold, who has had a rocky start to his six-year tenure with Los Blancos.

However, this latest injury setback casts further doubt on whether the defender can stake a claim for a spot in the England World Cup squad.
