Liverpool team news vs Aston Villa as Arne Slot makes Ryan Gravenberch call

20 hours ago 31

Arne Slot has made nine changes to his Liverpool team against Aston Villa, from the one that started in the midweek defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Reds line-up is similar to the one that began against Brentford last week, but Ryan Gravenberch has been recalled to the team. The midfielder has missed the last three games due to injury.

Slot has also chosen to hand Andy Robertson a first Premier League start of the season, with Milos Kerkez dropping out of the side.

Calvin Ramsay has also been named in the squad following his impressive performance in the midweek Carabao Cup loss.

With Alisson still out, Giorgi Mamardashvili starts in nets for the fourth game in a row.

Conor Bradley continues at right-back, with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk at center-back, and Robertson coming in on the left-hand side.

Gravenberch's midfield should be significant for the Reds, with the Dutchman among Slot's most-trusted on-field generals. He is joined by Dominik Szoboszlai, while Florian Wirtz has been selected in a no.10 role.

Mohamed Salah returns on the wing and will look to score his 250th Liverpool goal on Saturday. Cody Gakpo is set to start on left wing, with Hugo Ekitike named as no.9 in the absence of Alexander Isak.

Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Curtis Jones remain unavailable due to injury.

Liverpool team vs Aston Villa: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike.

Liverpool substitutes: Woodman, Ramsay, Gomez, Kerkez, Endo, Nyoni, Mac Allister, Cheisa, Ngumoha.
