Liverpool team vs Man Utd confirmed as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak decisions made

8 hours ago 25

Alexander Isak starts for Liverpool against Manchester United but Florian Wirtz is among the substitutes as Arne Slot's side returns to Premier League action following the October international break.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is in goal with number one shot-stopper Alisson Becker still sidelined with a hamstring injury. Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Milos Kerkez make up the back four in front of the Georgian.

Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are in midfield alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, with Mohamed Salah, Isak and Cody Gakpo forming the front three in attack. Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa are among the options to call upon from the bench.

"Losing three successive matches is not something that a club like Liverpool can ever or should ever get used to, which is why it is so important that we respond in the right way," Slot writes in the official matchday program.

"For this to happen, we all have to pull together on and off the pitch and we have to show proper Liverpool character as it is us – and us alone who can put things right.

"No one, certainly not today’s opponents, will be looking to give us a helping hand. I would like to welcome Ruben Amorim and the players, staff, officials and supporters of Manchester United to Anfield for this fixture.

"The rivalry between our two clubs is often spoken about in terms of passion and success and rightly so, but what is often overlooked is the mutual respect that also exists.

"I actually think it would be a bit weird if this was not the case because if you are a club which has been successful you should understand and appreciate how hard it is to be successful.

"Last season, we were able to join United on 20 league titles and knowing how tough it was to reach that landmark certainly gives me a greater understanding of what our clubs have achieved over the years.

"It also means that whenever we play, the game will be incredibly fiercely contested because of what we are representing and what is at stake.

"Our last meeting at Anfield highlighted this reality so we should expect another contest that is every bit as competitive today.

"Our aim is to use this knowledge to bring out the best in ourselves. This is not a game for regrets or for thoughts of what might have been.

"It is one where you have to do everything that you possibly can to perform at your highest level because anything less than this is unlikely to be good enough."
