Liverpool has eight more games remaining in the Premier League to ensure that it wraps up a spot in next season's Champions League, starting with a trip to Brighton this weekend.
When the summer arrives, however, Liverpool will need to dip into the transfer market once again to reshape its roster. There are a couple of key areas in which it currently looks light.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer rumors to emerge around the Reds today. Both players being linked will be familiar to those who enjoy the gossip columns. We start with a big-name central defender.

Liverpool could rival Barcelona for the signature of Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer, with the Italian side set to demand more than $58 million (£43 million) for the center-back.
That is according to the Spanish outlet SPORT. Barcelona has also been linked with a move for Tottenham star Micky van de Ven this week, and could be in need of reinforcements at the back.
Depending on what happens with Ibrahima Konate amid contract talks with the Frenchman, Liverpool may need another option at the back, too.

Jeremy Jacquet has already been snapped up for a fee of around $83 million (£60 million), including add-ons. Giovanni Leoni will also return from injury after missing almost the whole of his first campaign at the club.
After missing out on Marc Guehi at the last second last summer, Liverpool knew it had work to do at center-back. Captain Virgil van Dijk is only tied down until the end of next season.
Liverpool.com says: Bastoni is a great player, and if he does leave Inter, it will be for a lot more than $58M. Liverpool may not need to be in the market for someone like him if it can keep Konate.
Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid)
Liverpool is leading the race for Eduardo Camavinga if the French midfielder decides to leave the Bernabeu this summer, at least according to TeamTalk.
The Reds have been linked with Camavinga and fellow midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni many times in the last few years, but it is possible there will be more movement in the center of the field this summer.

Alexis Mac Allister revealed recently that he has not held talks with Liverpool over a new contract, while Curtis Jones drew interest from Inter Milan in the January window.
The report claims that Chelsea and Manchester United would also be keen on Camavinga if he became available. The 23-year-old moved to Spain from Rennes in 2021.
Liverpool.com says: Camavinga would be a quality option for any Premier League team to consider. Every year he is linked with England, though, and he hasn't gone anywhere yet.
