Liverpool transfer news as cult hero 'accelerates' exit after new signings

Kostas Tsimikas's exit is expected to accelerate in the final few days of the transfer window after Arne Slot settled on new signing Milos Kerkez and stalwart Andy Robertson as his favored left-back options in the new season.

Tsimikas has been at Anfield since 2020, and he has been content with a back-up role up to now, but Kerkez's arrival has pushed him even further down the pecking order, and he is now surplus to requirements in Slot's squad.

The 29-year-old is expected to leave over the next fortnight, and Liverpool could be open to a loan deal if it a permanent suitor does not come forward with a suitable offer.

Speaking in June, Tsimikas said the temptation to play more frequently elsewhere is there, but maintained that he was happy playing a bit-part role for the Reds.

“It's definitely a temptation to play more,” Tsimikas said. “I'm happy here, for five years I've always been happy with these players I had by my side and with the jersey I wore.

“But for me the 27-29 games I play every year in all competitions are more than playing 40 for another team and in another league. Here I am on the Broadway of football.

“It's very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in a season with a Liverpool shirt. If you think about it, not all players play 50 games; some play 50, others 10, others play five.

“I think 27 games I played on average over the last four years is a good number. I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team, I was always happy and I always gave my best. So I was ok with the games I played.”

Despite those comments, it seems likely that Tsimikas will be on his way from Anfield in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace is seemingly planning for life without Marc Guehi, with The Independent reporting that Rennes talent Jeremy Jacquet has been identified as a possible replacement for the England international.

Palace is open to selling Guehi but there is reported to be a $14 million difference in Liverpool's and Palace's valuations of the player.

Liverpool is willing to pay $47 million to sign the 25-year-old but Palace is holding out for $61 million, despite Guehi having less than a year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.
