Liverpool transfer news as Dayot Upamecano talks confirmed and $117M star 'watched'

3 hours ago 48

Liverpool turns its attention back to the Champions League today, with the Reds looking to bounce back immediately from its first defeat of the season.

Saturday's loss at the hands of Crystal Palace will have left Arne Slot with a lot to ponder, and the Liverpool head coach will be hoping to get an instant response from his players as they take on Galatasaray later.

It has proven to be a challenge getting the Reds' new signings bedded in, with the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak still trying to find their feet. There's no end to the transfer speculation though, with even more players being touted for a move to Anfield in the near future.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich)

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed the club is trying to tie Dayot Upamecano down to a new contract amid ongoing speculation over his future.

The French international has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, with the 26-year-old having been touted as a potential alternative to Marc Guehi.

Like the Crystal Palace defender, Upamecano’s contract expires next summer, meaning he would be available for free, although Eberl and Bayern are doing all they can to convince him against leaving the German giant.

"I'm not surprised that many clubs are interested in Dayot [Upamecano],” Eberl told Sport Bild (via the Liverpool Echo). “We are also interested in extending his contract, and that takes a very, very long time.

"We are trying to convince him of the Bayern Munich project. We want to keep him."

Liverpool.com says: We'll have to wait and see what becomes of those contract talks, but regardless of whether Upamecano signs a new deal at Bayern or not, it hopefully won't matter that much to Liverpool.

Guehi should still be the priority in terms of a new defender, with Upamecano on the list as a potential back-up should the Palace captain have his head turned by another club, or even as another potential addition, given Ibrahima Konate's future remains unresolved.

Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)

Liverpool is “watching” Michael Olise, although the Reds could face a battle with Manchester City for the Bayern Munich star, Christian Falk has claimed in his Bayern Insider column.

Olise has been linked with a move to Anfield, with the former Crystal Palace forward tipped as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Olise’s price tag is still unknown, although it has been suggested that a bid of around $117 million (€100M) could force Bayern into a decision - the Bavarian club is said to be keen to offer him a new contract in order to ward off any interest.

Liverpool.com says: Olise does feel like he'd be a good option to eventually replace Salah, and there's the added bonus of already knowing he can perform well in the Premier League.

Given he is under contract until 2029, we're a long way off that becoming a reality, and if he did end up signing a new deal with Bayern, you feel that would almost certainly end any hopes of him coming to Anfield. As long as he keeps impressing in Germany though, it will be worth keeping a watchful eye on him.
