The January transfer window is now open, and Liverpool may well be among the sides looking to get some business done over the next few weeks.

Although Arne Slot’s side went big with their spending during the summer, injuries are beginning to take their toll, and with the likes of Alexander Isak and Joe Gomez out, the Reds may have to dip back into the market in order to maintain their top four hopes this season.

There has been no shortage of rumors leading up to the opening of the window, and reports are now suggesting that Liverpool is closing in on its first signing of the window.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Joel Ordonez (Club Brugge)

Liverpool is close to wrapping up the signing of Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge, according to Bola VIP. It’s suggested that negotiations have intensified, and that the center-back is close to making the move to Anfield this month.

The report also goes into detail about the deal he’ll supposedly sign, which would see him earning close to $4 million a year — nearly triple his current salary at Club Brugge.

Inter Milan is said to be the only potential obstacle to Liverpool wrapping up the transfer, with Chelsea having already pulled out of the race - whether Enzo Maresca’s firing will change that remains to be seen.

Liverpool.com says: Ordonez could be a good option for Liverpool — a young center-back who can act as back-up to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for the rest of the season, with a view to him building up his role in the coming years.

Whether he's ready to make the step up to the Premier League would be the big question, but if he does end up arriving at Anfield, hopefully he wouldn't have to be called upon too often this season, and he would be given time to bed himself in.

Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid)

Liverpool holds a genuine interest in Eduardo Camavinga, but the midfielder is not thinking about leaving Real Madrid in January, according to TeamTalk.

Camavinga has seen his name linked to some spurious rumors leading up to the January window opening. This latest report does claim that the 23-year-old is a long-term target for Liverpool, and that a deal was being lined up this month.

The French international, though, doesn’t have any plans on leaving the Bernabeu, and he’s also said to be in Xabi Alonso’s plans going forward — although Liverpool is said to remain in “constant contact” with Camavinga’s camp.

Liverpool.com says: Camavinga feels like one of those names that is going to be constantly linked with Liverpool, despite there not being any real chance of him making the move.

The idea of him leaving Real Madrid this month is a stretch to say the least, and it's hard to see him making the move any time soon. He would be a very exciting signing, but it's just not one we can ever see happening.
