Liverpool could look to sign two wingers this morning as the club looks to move on from Mohamed Salah this summer.

The 33-year-old’s update on Tuesday that he is set to end his nine-year association with the club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season dominated international headlines.

In a statement, Salah said: “Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. I wanted to start by saying I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life.

“Liverpool is not just a football club. It is a passion, a history, a spirit that I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club.

“We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our lives.

“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

Inevitably, the conversation will quickly move on to Liverpool’s contingency plans in the transfer market, especially given the Reds’ deficiencies in the wide areas this season.

According to transfer social media figure Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool may even add two attackers to its roster in the upcoming window. Such an update seems likely given Federico Chiesa is likely to also depart this summer following an underwhelming two years at Anfield.

“Liverpool will go for wingers in the summer, could be one, could be two, depends on the opportunities, but they will go for wingers,” Romano said in his latest YouTube video.

“Liverpool will be smart, of course, Champions League football or not will be important for the investment, so we have to understand.

“But for sure Liverpool are targeting wingers. Expect them to be active. There are several players they are monitoring. In terms of names, I will tell you more soon.

“I think today it’s correct we dedicate this update and this video to Mohamed Salah, this moment to Mohamed Salah, because he’s a legend of the game.

“But the impact of this is going in two directions: Liverpool will buy one or two wingers in the transfer window and they will be really active, and Mohamed Salah is now ready to assess proposals and try something different.”
