Liverpool transfer target Rodrygo's future still uncertain after latest Real Madrid decision

1 day ago 69

Liverpool is persistently being linked to a potential summer transfer swoop for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as the Reds' attack undergoes a bit of a reshuffle. The 24-year-old is grappling with intense competition for a starting berth at the Bernabéu, sparking rumours that he might be on his way out before the transfer window slams shut.

The Merseyside club is one of the possible landing spots being bandied about in the Spanish press. This isn't the first instance of Liverpool showing interest, with the player previously opting to sign for Real Madrid over a move to Anfield during his teenage years.

The Brazilian would have been keen to catch the eye of new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso this summer, both during the Club World Cup and the pre-season preparations. However, his playing time has so far been restricted.

He only started once in the Club World Cup, in the tournament's opening match, and was brought on as a substitute just twice more.

After a brief hiatus, he has now resumed pre-season training with the club.

Real Madrid were in pre-season action on Friday, playing a behind-closed-doors match against Leganes. Despite being back in training, Rodrygo was once again left out of the starting lineup, with the team emerging as 4-1 victors.

Reports suggest that he did make an appearance as a substitute, but the duration of his stint on the pitch remains unknown.

Liverpool has been frequently linked to Rodrygo

Real Madrid will return to training on Sunday before squaring off against WSG Tirol in Innsbruck on Tuesday night.

The decision to exclude him from the squad comes amidst rumours of interest in the winger from Saudi Arabia. Marca reports that Saudi teams have shown interest in the Brazilian, but Real Madrid has rebuffed any advances.

Liverpool aren't the only English club rumoured to be interested in Rodrygo this summer, with Arsenal and Tottenham also reportedly keen.

It's suggested that while Real are open to letting the player leave this summer, they're demanding a fee of around €90 million (£77.9M/$105M).

The Reds have already made significant investments in their attack this summer. The club has secured the signings of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike from Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively, whilst also being strongly linked with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
