Ruben Loftus-Cheek made his first England appearance in seven years on Thursday night, and he was given a cap by captain Harry Kane.

Loftus-Cheek has been recalled to the England set-up under Thomas Tuchel in the past two international breaks. He did not get a minute of action in the two September games, but came off the bench on Thursday in a 3-0 win against Wales, his first senior appearance for the Three Lions since 2018.

After the full-time whistle, Kane handed Loftus-Cheek his ‘legacy cap’ and the midfielder said a few words in front of his team-mates.

“Thank you for this. It’s been a long while since I’ve been back. I’m grateful to be back and join the team, to see how well we’re doing. There’s some fantastic players here, I’m proud to be part of the squad again, so let’s keep going with the performances like tonight and kick on.”
