AC Milan are pleased with how Christian Comotto’s loan spell at Spezia is going, but they face a decision to make during the summer.

Comotto was part of the senior side during the preseason camp, and he had a couple of impressive outings. He did not stay around under Massimiliano Allegri though, instead heading to Spezia in Serie B on a season-long loan, with their previous head coach admitting he was ‘perplexed’ by the move.

Comotto’s resurgance

After struggling a bit for opportunities, the arrival of former Milan midfielder Roberto Donadoni as the new head coach of Spezia in November seems to have been good news for Comotto, who is now turning heads with his performances.

As Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com revealed in a video on his YouTube channel, Milan are happy with how Comotto’s season is going. After being kept out for a few games with a calf issue, he is getting more regular minutes and had a very impressive start against Bari on February 11.

There are essentially two options for Comotto’s future, with the certain premise being that at this stage of his career he needs to be a starter. The first is that he can go back to Spezia for another season if Donadoni stays (which he almost certainly would as long as they are not relegated).

The other option – if Spezia went down or the circumstances there changed – is that Milan would look for an alternative destination, i.e. another club willing to take the youngster on loan and guarantee starts.
