Longo: New name emerges as potential Maignan replacement for Milan – the latest

2 hours ago 1

Given the uncertainty regarding Mike Maignan, AC Milan are monitoring potential replacements and a new name has emerged on their radar, according to a report.

At one point during the summer, or more specifically during the Club World Cup transfer window, Maignan seemed destined to leave Milan for Chelsea. However, a move never materialised and the goalkeeper agreed to stay, reaching an understanding with Max Allegri.

The contract dilemma remains, though, as it will expire next summer. Milan have been monitoring the likes of Elia Caprile (Cagliari) and Zion Suzuki (Parma) to be prepared for all outcomes, but a new name has now emerged as well.

Sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada are working on alternatives to ensure they’re prepared: Cagliari’s Elia Caprile and Parma’s Zion Suzuki are among the candidates. Both will be closely monitored throughout the season.

Restes catches Milan’s attention

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Igli Tare and Geoffrey Moncada have added Guillaume Restes to their list. The 20-year-old currently plays for Toulouse and has received a lot of praise, following a pretty rapid rise to the top.

Milan already have a very good relationship with Restes’ agents, not to mention that the Rossoneri owners RedBird also own Toulouse. The goalkeeper will be monitored for the rest of the season, then a decision will be made in the spring.

One can definitely question the links, however, as Milan already have a very good 20-year-old goalkeeper in the squad, namely Lorenzo Torriani.
