AC Milan will be up against Napoli this evening and as highlighted by Andrea Longoni, the game has come ‘at the perfect moment’ for the Rossoneri.
Many have branded tonight’s game as a litmus test for Massimiliano Allegri and his men, with it being Milan’s first big clash of the season. The fact that Napoli have started the season so well has only fueled the build-up too.
In his latest editorial for MilanNews, the journalist Andrea Longoni discussed the importance of the game. It has certainly come at the right time for Milan, as he puts it, but that doesn’t mean the outcome will be positive.
“On paper, Allegri’s team is heading into this game at the perfect moment. After the defeat against Cremonese, they have received nothing but positive feedback. At every level as well, starting with the defence, which has been truly extraordinary (so far).
“The midfield offers a sense of solidity that has been missing for a long time, and then there’s also remarkable attacking production. However, this has been achieved against weaker opponents. That’s why tonight will be a true test to help Milan understand how high their ambitions can go.
“A defeat would dampen their enthusiasm and put the focus on a Champions League spot next season. A win, on the other hand, would be a resounding signal that would put Milan back in the race for the Scudetto even if it’s still early.
“A draw, on the eve of the match, is probably a result that wouldn’t displease either team,” he concluded.
Allegri has already changed a lot compared to last season but beating Napoli would help him complete another change. Indeed, Milan lost both of their games against the Partenopei last season, which just isn’t good enough.
