Longoni unhappy with Cardinale’s Milan silence: “Total unsuitability for the role”

Journalist Andrea Longoni has questioned owner Gerry Cardinale’s media silence when it comes to AC Milan.

When he first took the helm at Milan, Cardinale was much more present in the media when speaking about the club and the aims for the future. However, things have gone a bit quiet on that front which – coupled with a bad last 12 months on the field – has angered some fans.

Interestingly, Carlo Pellegatti suggested a few days ago that the RedBird Capital number one could in fact sell the Rossoneri to the Steinbrenner family, though we did receive denials from sources close to the ownership group about this possibility.

‘Total unsuitability for the role’

Longoni published his weekly column for MilanNews and in part of it he spoke about the rumours doing the rounds, and what Cardinale’s words (or lack of) seem to suggest.

“This week has been hectic with rumours of Cardinale’s possible sale of the club. The feeling is that something could actually happen in the coming months. This would be the only partial explanation for the silence, in any case unjustifiable, of the AC Milan owner.

“He has been absent from the Rossoneri scene for a lifetime. How could he say nothing at the end of last disastrous season? How could he not even express himself at the start of this one? Not even a couple of lines entrusted to ANSA [press agency]? Not even about the new coach?

“Or perhaps we should say about the new ones, given that even Conceicao wasn’t even given a superficial welcome. The classic deafening silence. Further proof, if any were needed, of his total unsuitability for the role.

“And for him, on a positive note, not even the facts, which are the most important thing, speak volumes. Unfortunately…”
