Maignan crucial while compatriot struggles: Player ratings for Milan-Lazio from Italian papers

1 week ago 46

Mike Maignan was the big hero for AC Milan in their 1-0 win against Lazio, at least according to the papers, as he made a stunning save at the start of the game.

Milan continued their fine run of form with a narrow win against the Biancocelesti at San Siro last night. While Rafael Leao scored the winner in the second half, the situation would have been very different if it hadn’t been for a Maignan save after just two minutes.

The Frenchman showcased stunning reflexes and in our player ratings, he was named the MOTM for the heroic stop. Today’s newspapers agree (see photos below) that the save was absolutely huge for Milan, with Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport both giving him a 7.5/10.

Leao received the same rating by Gazzetta dello Sport, but Tuttosport gave him a 7. As for the worst player on the pitch, there were no doubts about that: Christoper Nkunku. Both newspapers gave him a 5/10, just like we did in our ratings, as he was more or less invisible.

The rest of the players were decent, with Davide Bartesaghi sticking out a little bit with a 7 from Gazzetta dello Sport and a 6.5 from Tuttosport.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s ratings

7.5: Leao, Maignan.

7: Bartesaghi.

6.5: Tomori, Gabbia, Rabiot.

6: Pavlovic, Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Loftus-Cheek.

5: Nkunku.

Tuttosport’s ratings

7.5: Maignan.

7: Leao.

6.5: Tomori, Gabbia, Saelemaekers, Bartesaghi.

6: Pavlovic, Fofana, Modric, Loftus-Cheek, Rabiot.

5: Nkunku.
