Mike Maignan believes that it is ‘too early’ for AC Milan to dream too much, but insists that they are on the right path.
Milan ground out a very important win against Roma at San Siro on Sunday night, with Maignan part of a heroic rearguard effort. The only goal came from that defensive line too, with Strahinja Pavlovic getting it not long before the break as he bombed forward to meet Rafael Leao’s cut-back.
Roma put the Milan goal under siege in the final part of the game, and Maignan was called upon to make a decisive intervention 10 minutes from time. Youssouf Fofana gave away a penalty for handball, and yet the Frenchman guessed the right way to stop Paulo Dybala’s spot kick.
‘A decisive moment’
The result means that the Rossoneri go level on points with Roma, and one behind the leaders Napoli. Maignan spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to give his thoughts on a very hard-earned three points, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

What does this victory mean?
“These are three important points, like every point we have to earn. Since the start of the season, we’ve been trying to fight for every second on the pitch. By playing like this together, we can only achieve positive results.”
How far can Milan go?
“It’s too early to dream, it’s November. We’re compact, united. We just have to take it game by game. We have big goals, yes, but we have to play it straight, game by game.”
Your penalty save…
“It was a decisive moment for the team. I was confident, my team-mates had faith in me. I’m happy with what I gave to the team.”
