Mike Maignan was not happy with the decision that led to the penalty from which Roma equalised against AC Milan.
Milan spent almost the entirety of the first half penned into their own box by Roma’s pressure, but they did not concede and managed to hang in there. Then, just like in the reverse fixture, the first big chance resulted in a goal at the other end as Koni De Winter headed in a corner.
The lead wasn’t to last this time though, as Davide Bartesaghi was penalised for a handball inside the box and a penalty was given. Lorenzo Pellegrini took the spot kick with Paulo Dybala having been subbed off, and he fired in to earn a share of the spoils.
Maignan was interviewed after the full-time whistle pitchside by DAZN to offer his thoughts on the game, sporting a very unimpressed expressions. MilanNews transcribed what he had to say.
I don’t see a happy face…
“We came here for the three points, but we faced a tough and difficult team: we knew it, at their home ground. We scored in the second half, and it’s a shame we didn’t finish and take the game.”
What did you think of the penalty?
“What’s Bartesaghi supposed to do? Cut his arm off? The ball’s close to him, and Celik kicks it at his hand. He could have even called for a second on Pulisic…”
Inter are moving further away and the chasing pack are getting closer…
“There are many very strong teams in Italy competing for the top four spots. Every point counts. We play every game to win and get as many points as possible to continue our progress.”
